GDX holds ~50 of the world's largest gold producers including Newmont, Barrick, and Agnico Eagle. At approximately $1.4B AUM and with tight bid-ask spreads, it's one of the most liquid gold miners ETFs on the ASX. GDX is unhedged so AUD/USD movements also affect returns. When gold rises, miners' margins expand and their shares tend to rise by a greater percentage. Gold mining ETFs carry significant volatility, mining companies face operational risks beyond the gold price, including cost blowouts, geopolitical exposure, and currency movements. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns.
