VDBA is a true 50/50 split between shares and bonds. The heavy bond weighting significantly cushions falls in a bad sharemarket year but also means VDBA grows much more slowly than VDHG in good years. At 0.27% it's the same price as the other Vanguard diversified funds. VDBA returned 9.38% over 1 year to February 2026, benefiting from both bond recovery and equity gains. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns. Whether this allocation is appropriate depends on your individual investment horizon, risk tolerance and financial circumstances, a licensed financial adviser can help.
