VBND holds over 13,000 government and corporate bonds from the US, Europe, Japan, and other developed markets, all hedged into Australian dollars. It is the bond component inside VDHG and VDGR. When sharemarkets fall sharply, global bonds often hold value or rise, adding diversification. Like VAF, VBND has had a difficult 5 years due to the global rate-hiking cycle, with near-zero 5-year returns.
